Which Minivans Get The Best Gas Mileage?

It’s no secret that minivans aren’t as fuel-efficient as cars and some SUVs, but there are a few that do achieve surprisingly good gas mileage. New hybrid powertrains and smaller but mighty engines are helping minivans get better fuel economy than ever before.

Achieving good fuel economy doesn’t mean that modern minivans are giving up power. The best minivans on the market make nearly 300 horsepower, which is enough to get them up to speed and give the driver confidence while passing on the highway.
The number of minivans in the market is not large; this slideshow covers each model and tells you which of their trims is most fuel-efficient.

The 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan is a low-priced minivan that doesn’t come with many of the bells and whistles of more modern vans, even when fully equipped. Each of its four grades is powered by a 283-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine that achieves 17 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway.

Though the Grand Caravan’s engine is strong, at high speeds it gets noisy and its transmission shifts slowly. Couple that with its harsh ride and you can begin to see why the minivan doesn’t do well in U.S. News & World Report’s minivan rankings.
Compared to other minivans, the Grand Caravan doesn’t achieve very good safety ratings and its cabin isn’t as nicely outfitted. One of the van’s bright spots is its Stow ‘n Go seats.
