America Is Not Getting Any Bentley Mulsanne Convertibles

Bentley has been toying with the idea of chopping the Mulsanne’s roof since 2012, when a select few were shown the first prototype at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. By that time, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé has been on the market for five years, yet Bentley decided to spend another five testing and settling on the final details of the Mulsanne Convertible’s production version.

Bentley Mulsanne

Revealed rather quietly at the Dubai Motor Show, not far from a very orange Corvette, the Mulsanne Convertible is a limited edition of 19 units, as a nod to the company’s founding back in 1919. It will be based on the 530 horsepower Mulsanne Speed and built by Mulliner with pricing in the seven digit range.

The first examples should get to customers in 2019, just to make sure they can celebrate Bentley’s centenary in style. Unfortunately for the people of Florida, Bentley has also confirmed that the Mulsanne Convertible is not destined for America.

Ever since Rolls-Royce discontinued the Phantom Drophead Coupé almost two years ago, there’s been a hole on the market in need of filling. Around 6000 lbs. of Mulsanne Convertible should restore the balance just fine.
